NC or Chicago?

01.11.2003

I'm thinking about teaching high school in North Carolina. It's not too hot or cold. It's not too southern (it's not Mississippi). It's got nice geography. Also, there's a pretty good music scene in places like Chapel Hill. Of course, there's always the lure of Chicago.

Chicago! Chicago!
this is purely selfish cry on my part.
I understand that nc is fantastic climate wise (however they do have terrible hurricanes, and my friends have had a rough winter; their power has been out for days on and off). I think I will end up in Chicago sooner or later. My childish fantasy would have us all living in Chicago (a sort of super k'zoo) playing chess in the park at 65.

yeah, and the street corn venders are tops.

There is nothing quite like corn, mayonaise, parmesan cheese, and chili powder on a stick to attract new citizens.

they put everything on sticks here- mangos, corn...you name it.
parts of north carolina can be very backwards- i was there for the national ceramics conference a few years ago and although charlotte was nice, the areas around it were not so nice. if you could get into the chapel hill area, that would be great. where are you thinking of applying? why high school?
