Coffee instead of jogging

01.31.2003

I just got back from coffee w/ Cathleen, my neighbor down the hall. We've bumped into each other a few times around The Parkmont, but never really just hung out. We were supposed to start jogging together, but the cold made us really lazy. So we got together for coffee in a smoke-filled Fourth Coast instead.

I had a great time; we talked for hours about music, theater, journalism, and life in Kalamazoo. She works for WKZO, which apparently isn't much like the TV show NewsRadio. I feel like something of a jerk for not making a greater effort to get to know my neighbors better, but at least this is a start. I'd forgotten how exciting it is to get to know new people. I'm usually too much of a homebody hermit.

I'm still waiting to download Apple's iLife applications. They should be ready later today, so go check them out. I also learned a new Safari trick today. You can use it to open a server directly from the Finder and have it available for browsing. Goodbye FTP applications? There's an article on macslash.org on Safari's various uses (it's not just a browser).

yep. I remember her; cute and interesting
(I'm in a similar predicament. I've promised my neighbor to make her dinner in the next night or two- but I have no idea what to make. I'm fairly limited by only having a single unit stove top cooker. Usually I just make delicious sandwiches for myself. Not really date food.)
I think you have any inclinations towards marriage she is the one

Marriage? Hold on there Bill Brieger. Don't put the cart ahead of the horse.

Now, as to your question. You should cook something w/ pasta; you can do that w/ only one burner. Make some nice pennette noodles and then drain them. Then put in a bit of pasta sauce w/ some crushed red peppers and a touch of plum wine (available in Japan). Heat that up while you drain and toss the pasta. Then toss the pasta back into your pot and stirr around (pennette absorbs sauce really well). Maybe toss some shredded Romano (or Feta or even Asiago) on top, and you're good to go. It's essentially pasta a l'arabiata.

yeah- i alway mix up the horse and cart thing.
Sounds good. I was stearing away from pasta since thats what she made for me, but I might have to try that. My chef friend in boston suggested this elaborate dish with portabellas but I can't find any around here. Vanessa suggested blueberry pancakes which I think I'll save for the second date- and it occurs to me that I've sought a rediculous amount of advice on this matter- it feels like a Seinfeld episode where the punchline is going to be over the top.
