Cry Havoc

No weekly guys-only poker night. Everyone was busy doing other things. That was a bit of a disappointment. So Jaakan, Dave, and I ended up watching a movie: William Shatner's Spplat Attack

OK, it's a cheesy documentary of "the largest paintball battle ever" featuring Captain Kirk himself. Shatner leads hundreds of Federation troops against the Klingon and Borg armies in a three-way mêlée set at Challenge Park Xtreme.

But it's great fun watching Shatner playing his alter ego in a pseudo-realistic battle. The Klingons were bloodthirsty, charging across the broken fields to attack the mockup town of Bedlam. And that final scene, when a pudgy Kirk personally led his troops "over the top," complete w/ slow-mo and heroic music, paintball guns blasting as a wave of Federation red shirts pour out of the trench in a fierce frontal assault. Wow.

Is it great cinema? No. But it's tremendous fun. And it reminds me how much I enjoyed playing paintball. Jaakan, Dave, and I vowed to get a team together and play a few games this summer. Andy, do you still have your equipment?
