We are not in Baghdad

04.07.2003

This will be everywhere on the news tomorrow. The 2nd Brigade of the 3ID (supported by 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry) captured and is holding Hussein's presidential palace, the Information Ministry, and other key buildings.

Iraq's Information Minister is giving a live press conference from the Palestine Hotel. He denies "American war criminal mercenaries" are anywhere near Baghdad. Brave Iraqi fighters are defeating the "Zionist oil mafia" on all fronts. Al Jazeera is a "mouthpiece of American lies" for reporting American victories. A BBC reporter asked him about the machinegun fire going on in the background. Oh, that?

Probably the American troops across the river and a few blocks away. Who were busy nonchalantly blowing up a giant statue of Saddam. Either way, the press conference ended and the Iraqi spokesperson scampered away.

John Keegan points out that Hussein's "war plan" was so utterly flawed, it qualifies as "the most inept ever designed." Keegan is one of the world's premier military historians.

Hey Miguel,

I was just wondering what your opinion is on coalition forces destroying statues of Saddam?
