This is interesting: Saddam's spy chief just surrendered to coalition forces. I wonder what new secrets will be revealed ...

Iraq is now under the media radar. I guess democratic transitions just aren't ratings boosters like bullets, bombs, blood. Too bad. The real Iraq war is now under way. And I don't mean the "hearts & minds" clichés. I mean the real meat of the issue. There was never really any doubt about who would win the war. But the war was waged on the gamble A) that Iraq could be democratized and B) that this would have a "demonstration effect" (to use a term coined by Sam Huntington) on the region. If the gambit is successful, it'll be a huge turning point in Middle East politics. You should really read Command Post and the daily briefings at Winds of Change to keep up.

Also, I've not posted on this before. But Iranian authorities arrested, Sina Motallebi, a well-known blogger-journalist. You can sign an online petition on his behalf. Support democracy — support free speech and a free press.

Miguel, I was just thinking the same thing. OJ Simpson's reality show is bigger news than all the things that continue to go on in Iraq.

Crazy media types ;)
