There's an interesting editorial in Uganda's New Vision on America's role in Africa.

The UN's protecting an alleged torturer. The Guardian reports a Zimbabwean police officer accused of human rights abuses works for the UN peacekeeping mission in Kosovo (read the press release from Redress). UN officials refuse to arrest or investigate. According to Human Rights Watch, Zimbabwe (and its police) has a horrible human rights record.

For you cat lovers out there: Rusik the "sniffer cat" is dead. Russia's only feline police officer was killed in a suspected contract hit by angry caviar smugglers. Rusik's feline partner, Barsik, was poisoned a few weeks ago.

And, on a light-hearted note, James Lileks has a brilliant, outright Fisking (just below the grafs on his movie night) of an editorial by Syl Jones. Wow.
