One down, several to go

Saddam Hussein was captured today. Say what you will about the Iraq war (and you're welcome to your opinions). But a brutal dictator, responsible for thousands of deaths, was caught and will stand trial. Of course, some people are more interested in petty partisan politics than in human rights.

Still on the wanted list are: Pinochet, Mugabe, Castro, Kim Jong Il, and some others.

UPDATE: My good friend J. Edmund posted a hillarious list of Saddam Hussein jokes. My favorite?

Q: Why did Saddam look so filthy? Was it because he was hiding in a dirty hole?

A: No, he was trying to show solidarity with his French allies.

I agree, although he looks so ... well pitiful, he looks like trial against him would be kind of dissapointing if he continues to look so pitiful and kind of careless about anything anymore. People would hardly have a closure in this way. But he differs in a particular respect from other dictators failed before, he did not put up a fight or killed himself. Isn't that interesting?

I also agree w/ some of the names you mentioned, but I have to say something. As I mentioned several times, I believe in law and justice however naive that may sound. But what always make me angry is how American soldiers are protected when they do something bad abroad (remind yourself of some of the cases in Japan, Italy, Afghanistan, Iraq ...). They should stand trial, too, where they could have an opportunity to prove their innocence, if they were? I spoke.

Well I am glad we caught him. Now we can move on to finding those weapons of mass destruction. I they are probably buried in a hole next to him. Lets look there.

Not necessarily in that order!

Well, American soldiers HAVE stood trial over the ages for things they've done. There were court martials and soldiers executed, even, for such offenses. But, yes, law & order should go both ways.

Also, I think Hussein was haggard because he was kept on the run for so long. Iraqi media say he sounds defiant, still. I'm sure a shower and a few hot meals will have him ready for trial. It'll sure be interesting to watch. I also hope he tells us where his WMDs are hidden.

If only Castro would crawl into a hole.

I think he's been digging his hole for several decades now. Only a matter of time before it caves in on him. I don't think the Cuban "system" will outlive Castro any more than the Spanish "system" outlived Franco.
