Thanks. We're doing an informal opening Friday night, just for family. Hope it goes well. I'm working on making flavored coffee drinks w/o the recourse of Torani-type flavor syrups ... so using raw ground cinnamon, ginger, hazelnut, stuff like that. So far so good. We open "officially" the first weekend of February (although we'll be open most of the meantime).

What level is the shop on, ground floor? ...basement? I agree with Sam, the arching brick is so freakin' cool. I'm one step closer to visiting one day. Best of luck with your venture. --scott

What a cozy looking atmosphere! It's great that you're opening early Feb, I'll be able to check it out sometime during the week of the 16th. Can't wait!

Wow that place looks awesome. I bet it’s difficult to make flavored drinks without the flavor. I remember making cinnamon toast, and if you didn’t mix the cinnamon and sugar just right it wasn’t very good, and you cant just brush stuff off the coffee and start over.

JSB:

The cafe is on the first (ground) floor. The restaurants upstairs has the same type of ceilings. It's part of a colonial style of building known as a tambo. Basically, a large building w/ lots of separate store fronts and an open air (no ceiling) patio in the center. Sort of like a traditional Roman villa. The owner lives in the third floor.

Dave:

Yes. It's so damned tough to make coffee at first. I spent a day trying different amounts to get it right. But. Honestly. The coffee actually tastes better w/ natural flavors rather than Torani stuff. And now that I've got the hang of it, it's not really all that tough. And I've learned tons of awesome recipes.

Steph:

Actually, we're planning on having frequent live music performances.

Went looking for your cafe the other day when I was around there. Couldn't find it. Is there a sign or something yet? When are you inviting your fellow fellows?

How to find the place (which is only open at nights, and not on Monday at all):

It's up on calle Sagarnaga & Linares. If you go up Sagarnaga, turn left on Linares. It's on the right hand side, in the same building as the Museo de Coca. There's a French-named restaurant above us, we're o the ground floor (on the left, go up about four steps). Startig on Tuesday, there should be a sign/menu on the door. There's a sign outside at night (O Mundo Cafe Cultural), but it's hard to see (should be fixed soon). Best bet is to look for the French restaurant.
