Breakfast before noon

03.16.2004

Sam's amazed I'm awake two mornings in a row. Yesterday was a fluke, really. Today, I'd a scheduled interview w/ a faculty member at Universidad Nuestra Seņora de La Paz. I arrived on time; after waiting ten minutes, he rescheduled for the afternoon. That's life in Bolivia. So. Here I am. Awake well before noon (before 9am even!) two days in a row. Should I go for a whole week? It'd be the first time in over a decade. Since I've never had one of those "8 to whatever" jobs.

On another note, Daniel's back blogging again. W/ a great rendition of the "sea captain" analogy for Bolivia's current political situation. My favorite bit:

Bolivia had a captain that fell (was thrown?) to the sea and following that confusion a brilliant passenger took command. This commander has a very good attitude and lot's of practical knowledge on everything but ships, seas and cartography.

Also, here's a list of the top-200 online writers (including blogs & print media). Compiled by looking at link references & such. It's interesting. Note that only one non-blogger's on the top-10 — the list leans towards "pure" bloggers. On a related note: the 2004 Bloggie Awards were announced.

Hi Miguel,
I told Sam I wanted a pink vespa (that I saw on TV) and he said I should tell you. What do you think?

Vespa's a good brand. But if you want something more unique, go w/ an older Vespa moped. I recommend a Ciao, Si, or Bravo model. Look around on eBay or contact Moped Army (mopedarmy.com) to see if they can help you find one. Or any other Italian moped would be nice. Much cheaper, funner to ride, and more unique.

Or. If you really want a scooter. Try to find a vintage Vespa (or Lambretta) scooter. You can paint it any color you want. The 60s & 70s models look much cooler than the newer ones.

I was amazed you were up early two days in a row. Be careful, it might become a habit.

Old Mopeds...

I have to agree that the older bikes have much more class and style than the newer models. However, some of the tech. specs on the newest model Vespa, along with its throwback design, make it a pretty nice scooter. However, the price tag, in my opinion, does not really warrant giving it any serious attention when older, and cooler bikes exist.

I happily admit, I'm no expert on mopeds. I just have always had an affinity for Vespas and try to keep my eyes out for what they are doing.
