Heading into the weekend

04.16.2004

Finally spoke to M on the phone. She's been sick, which I guess is a decent excuse for not hearing from her for a week. I'll try (again) to find her at home this weekend to try cheering her up.

Meanwhile, I'm continuing to hang out w/ Matthew, on his last week before he leaves La Paz on a roundabout trip back to France (via Buenos Aires, Lima, and Cuzco). Met at Aggi's house tonight for potatoes au gratin, and a Bs.10 bottle of Argentine wine (not bad, but sweet). Also saw his San Pedro apartment, which I might rent for my last 2-3 months in Bolivia (he only pays $55 per month).

Also, the world's very small. Somehow it turns out that Aggi knows Alison Kohn (another fellow Fulbrighter), and asked me to invite her over for dinner. Alison's first reaction to the news was: "How do you know Aggi?" The answer was: "Through Matthew." Follow up question: "How do you know Matthew?" And all I could say was: "I met him a while ago, but saw him again at Jay's (another fellow Fulbrighter) birthday party." Despite being a city of a million, it always seems that everyone in La Paz knows everyone else. It's so odd.

Oh. I've also decided to start taking tango lessons at Hotel Torino on Saturday mornings & Thursday evenings. Why not? Should be fun, eh? Really, I'd rather learn tango than salsa or anything else. Except maybe cueca; I still want to learn to dance cueca (but the cueca chapaca, of course).

Tango is a lot of fun, and it impresses the ladies.

Y (my other half) and I have been taking Argentina tango for the last year or so, taught by an older professional dancer direct from Buenos Aires.

I hope you pick it up faster than I.

Ok. You have to teach me how to tango sometime.

I've not yet taken a single lesson, but, sure.
