Lovely! Islas Ballestas - Is that a deserted bridge?

No, that's not a bridge, deserted or otherwise. Guano is collected from the islands (since it's just covered w/ bird shit). The structure in the picture's designed for lowering bags of collected guano onto awaiting ships. Fun job, eh?

what's a "guano"?
A suggestion: perhaps u could put a lsit of Spanish words with their English translations for non-spanish readers. = )

Stephanie, "guano" is originally a spanish word and an adopted english word. It's just bird dung that's collected and used as fertilizer. --s
