Cinco de Mayo

05.05.2004

It took J. Edmund to remind me that today's Cinco de Mayo. It's a much bigger holiday in the US than in Bolivia (since it's not even a holiday here). So. I'll take advantage of the small La Paz Fulbrighters dinner get-together tonight, to bring a case of Coronas to celebrate. ¡Viva Pancho Villa!

Speaking of five, Melli started a daily top 5 list. Not sure I can keep up, but I'll give it a go:

Top 5 ice cream flavors:
1. Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz Buzz (Ben & Jerry's)
2. Urban Jumble (Ben & Jerry's, sadly discontinued)
3. Tiramisu Gelato (Water Street Ice Cream Joint, Kalamazoo)
4. French Vanilla (Breyer's)
5. Mackinaw Island Fudge (Mooney's)

Oh man, the ice cream shop down the street from me has a KILLER espresso oreo ice cream. It's made on a farm in Wisconsin and has a wonderful, creamy texture, like gelato. I must say, though, that my bosses' malted vanilla ice cream is one of the best I've ever tasted. But then there was the pistachio gelato in Venice, that was good too. And the mint chocolate chip that Bryers makes is tasty- cool and chocolaty. I really like ice cream.

Thank God we're not saying Viva Maximillian! today...

Amen, Scott. I read your post on that. Totally on the money. We should definitely thank Haitians & Mexicans for helping make the US a power, and for doing their bit in the Civil War (indirectly).
