Along the Prado

06.25.2004

Took a walk along the Prado yesterday, snaped a few pictures along the way. It's not the most representative sample, but it's places I see most every day. The centerpiece, of course, is Cine Monje Campero (the pink building), where I go for my months-after-opening-in-the-US movie experience. Click on any image to see larger view.

Is that Eli's the other location for the Eli's Pizza that's right next to Hotel Copacabana on El Prado? I think I bought a smoothie from Eli's pizza everyday I was in La Paz

Yes, there's a chain of Eli's around La Paz, each w/ a slightly different character. The one further down the Prado is more like a cafeteria style place. Next to Monje Campero are two, one on each side. The one on the left (not seen in picture) specializes in pizzas. The one on the right is more of a diner (overly priced, in my opinion) w/ tons of old movie posters up.

I give - what is "Dumbo Jumbo"? A deli?

Cool photos.

Dumbo's Heladeria is an ice cream & cakes parlor (thought they also serve burgers & other food). It's pretty good. It's sort of a national chain. Their major competition is Kivon, based in Santa Cruz.

Oh, and it's not "Dumbo Jumbo". It just says "Dumbo" on both sides of the flying elephant.

All these photos that you post is making me want to visit again. I tried salchipapas for the first time at that Dumbo on the Prado.

The buildings look just like any other building in a city in the States. Thats a surprise...

Steph: except for the pastels. The only places I've seen such lively color is in the southwest.

The first picture - The lady standing infront of the building. What's she selling?

You make me want to go back for a visit. Plus, you bring back some good memories. However, it's changed a lot since I last saw it.

Cool pics!

Steph:
I'm not sure, but I think she was selling assorted peanuts, nuts, and stuff like that. There's a lot of them along the Prado. Plus venders of other assorted snack things.

I love the colors. What is it about the midwest where all of our buildings are grey and brown and too many houses are white? I don't understand it - we live in "permacloud" from November to April. You'd think we'd help ourselves out with some color!
