A Sunday in Tarija

07.04.2004

Last night, I sat at the bar of Bagdad Café. Reading The Shipping News, sipping fernet & coca cola, smoking. Started a conversation w/ a girld w/ the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen. Decided to take a chance, ask her out to lunch.

Glad I did. Ended up spending the entire day walking through Tarija, playing chess in the plaza, talking. Andrea's a fountain of trivia & a voracious reader, never a dull moment in the day. And the sweetest chapaquita smile & voice. We might meet again for lunch tomorrow, before I head off to Santa Cruz.

But one of those days you remember & sigh when you're 80 years old. A girl w/ deep brown eyes in Tarija.
