My room's a mess

08.19.2004

While the living room is progressing (albeit slowly), my bedroom's a total mess. I need a tiny desk (Dave promised me one) & a small dresser or something to keep the clothes explosion in my bedroom in check. At least Sophie enjoys sleeping in my pile of dirty laundry. But. Yeah. My bedroom's a total mess.

So much so, that I can't currently find my digital cameras. And I'd like to A) sell the old Minolta & B) use the new Nikon. I really hope I find them soon. It'd help, of course, if I started digging through boxes.

Also, I just started carefully reading through (as opposed to skimming) the text I chose for the International Relations course I teach this Fall. Frankly, I'm really disappointed in my choice. The book's not only rather biased towards a specific perspective. It's also prone to using exclamation points!

It also very bizarredly puts forth an argument — stated as if it were fact — that Britain deliberately let/helped Germany re-arm in the 1930s to check French power. Huh? I'm sure the argument could be put forward. I suppose. But. I've never read it before. So to put it forward as a statement of fact to discredit the realpolitik perspective seems rather ... what's the word? ... Chomskyesque.

Anyhow. Too late now to change it before the semester starts in two weeks.

And did I mention that my bedroom's a total mess? It's really disconcerting.

UPDATE: OK. I found the Nikon. Whew!

Which text are you using? I used your search box, but the provided posts were unfruitful.

I'm using International Politics on the World Stage, 5e by John T. Rourke & Mark A. Boyer. It's published by McGraw Hill. Here's the publisher's site. I chose it because I've used his Taking Sides book before, and enjoyed it.

Previously, I used the very good Global Challenge: Change and Continuity in World Politics by Lloyd Jensen and Lynn H. Miller published by Harcourt Brace. But it's not been updated since 1997.
