Dumbest. Idea. Ever.

10.19.2004

I just saw a brief blurb on The Screen Savers about what's perhaps one of the stupidest dotcom ideas I've ever heard: wingwomen.com. While the premise is sound — that men have an easier time meeting women at clubs/bars if accompanied by an attractive female friend — the idea for this as a business is stupid.

First, because the concept is so obvious, that everyone knows about this simple pickup strategy. Second, because if you don't have a single female friend, then no amount of money spent hiring professional "wing women" will help you w/ your problem. Third, because it looks like a thinly veiled escort service.

I wonder what the difference between a prostitute and an escort is. N.

This has got to be the tackiest dating strategy ever! I can't believe that people resort to this. Yikes, Yikes, Yikes! -s

Nenad, the difference being a "happy ending" and bigger price tag

An escort will dine and wine with you, and they could make brilliant conversationalists. And you get to bed them afterwards.

How is being accompanied by an attractive female friend supposed to help a guy out? When I see a guy with an attractive female friend, I assume they are dating/married/friends with benefits. Not the guy I would approach at a bar.

I guess the idea's that if you're hanging out w/ another girl, and she likes you, you must be an OK guy to begin w/, not as "threatening" or whatever. To be honest, my best friend at undergrand & I used to go out and people would either assume we were dating, or it would help us flirt w/ others (and, for her, if a creepy guy was hitting on her, I'd just step in, he'd assume we were dating & walk away). So. Yeah. I think it works. But hiring someone to hang out w/ you to make you look cool seems more sad than anything else.
