White out

11.24.2004

A light sleet began around 10am, by noon it was coming down a bit harder, and by now it's snowed the better part of the day. Today wasn't just Kalamazoo's first snowfall — it was our first blizzard.

And I'm actually enthralled by it all. Having spent last year in Bolivia, this is my first snow in two years. I forgot how it can just cover everything, cutting visibility. I forgot how cold it pricks at faces when walking. And how going anywhere requires consideration. Do we want to go out in that? Or should we just sit inside w/ hot chocolate?

Bay tried to convince me that the blizzard & the day before Thanksgiving would mean no students during office hours. Let's hope she's right.

After an uncharacteristic run to McDonald's, we ran back to WIDR for her radio talk show — w/ me as "guest" personality. We're frantically looking for interesting things to talk about on air. I'm leaning towards Ukraine's election, how much we ♥ Vaclav Havel, Wisconsin hunting mishaps, and Rathergate. Yes? Oh, and French soldiers firing randomly into a crowd (here's a 100MB Quicktime video) while unilaterally "imposing" peace in Ivory Coast. Non?

Unfortunately, I'm missing tonight's Fakesgiving vegan potluck. On the other hand, I finally got a much-needed haircut.

With the exception of class and work, I say sit inside and drink hot choclate. And with a cute guy it's even better.
