Barcelona plan

12.12.2004

Still reeling from a flu that makes my brain feel like marshmallow, I headed out for soup & tea at the Rocket Star, before going bowling. After a shaky start, I managed a respectable 125 the first game, but fell to 108 the second.

At the Rocket Star, finished a preliminary plan for Barcelona (28-29 December). Tentative, since I've to be flexible about when/how I get there from Italy (probably fly). Here it is:

Thursday

Start morning at Plaça de Catalunya, before a walk down La Rambla towards Mercat la Boqueria, stopping for a light breakfast (€7 or less). Head toward the sea, to the Christopher Columbus monument. Ramble through the Barri Gòtic (the old Gothic quarter) to find a spot for lunch (€7 or less). Enter the ancient Catedral (free) & the next-door Museu d'Història de la Ciutat (€3). Meander about the Barri Gòtic & La Rambla before dinner (€7-15). Finally, to the Ideal Youth Hostel (€12/night).

Wednesday

Wake up, and take metro (€1.10) from Liceu to Lesseps, to Parc Güell (free). Spend morning relaxing in the Gaudí-designed park. Take metro (€1.10) back down for lunch (€7 or less) & to the world-famous Sagrada Família church (€5). Finally, take metro (€1.10) to Aeroport del Prat for my 8:55pm flight to Chicago.

Total estimated cost of Barcelona: €54 ($70).

54 Euro? That's my kind of budget.

Amazing how far you can stretch cash if you plan. Someone could just as easily, doing the same activities, spend upwards of $500.

I still wish it was less than €54, but what can you do, eh? I normally spend about $10-20 any given day, so it's not so bad. I do wish the museums were free, though.

I think they have a discount for students (even foreign students). Show them your student ID. Also, the museums might have a 3-day/monthly/annual pass or something to allow you to visit lots of museums for a very small fee (check this out in cities that u'll be staying in more than 3 days).
