My productive Sunday

01.16.2005

Bellow's my (surprisingly) productive Sunday afternoon. Now the snow's falling, and I think I'll pack up Kaneda & head home to feed my girls before it gets too deep. Also, there's an intriguing semi-blind date prospect on the horizon — if I can tear myself away from Friday night's Battlestar Galactica (which you should all be watching, btw).

Outlined the bulk of Chapter 1, paragraph by paragraph. I've also decided to write separate chapters on Bolivia's political model ("parliamentarized presidentialism") & the idea of democracy as an "imagined community" (w/ emphasis on the image of "Bolivia" that emerged from the 1952 Revolution as a "national project" shared, until recently, by most Bolivians). That makes writing about political institutions & historical legacies in Chapter 1 prickly, but it also means Chapter 1 won't be a giant, bloated mess.

The outline's up at dBlog, if you're just dying to know.

So far, the literature review (the bulk of Chapter 1) will be 75 paragraphs (about 25 pages). I'm starting to get hung up on how to structure the rest of the chapter, but estimate that to be no more than 10 pages. So it's looking good. Monday I'll start going through my various drafts & notes, and start filling in the outline into actual paragraphs.

I've written most of the lit review at some point or other (in various papers, in the dissertation proposal, etc). So now it's just a matter of putting it together. Chapter 1, Part 2 will mostly follow the Proposal (though I'm batting around some structural ideas). Chapter 2 (the one describing Bolivia's model of "parliamentarized presidentialism") will mostly come from my 2001 LASA paper (has it been that long?) — except w/ the part where I argue that the change to MMP was a significant change, rather than a minor tweak. Chapter 3 is entirely new, and will be written from scratch (estimate 15-20 pages).

I know you don’t have cable either so where’s the BSG (Battle star galactica) party at?

Wait, I do have cable! Actually, I don't know how I'd survive w/o it. But I'll probably start watching BSG at 1am (rerun), if I miss the 9pm showing.
