Checked out

05.25.2005

Light posting, w/ K8 in from Chicago. But solid dissertation work both days, w/ each of us doing assorted research stuff on campus. Also, I made a (reportedly) very delicious meatloaf (from scratch, recipe below).

And it's always fun to get an email notice from the library that reads like this:

Dear Miguel Centellas,

A request you have placed:

Title: The legacy of populism in Bolivia : from the MNR to military rule /
Author: Mitchell, Christopher, 1944-

TN: 230297

has been cancelled by the interlibrary loan staff for the following reason:

Other

You have this book checked out.

That's where I go, "Doh!"

Meanwhile, Publius Pundit again has an excellent Bolivia news roundup (plus roundups from around the world).

UPDATE: Here's the meatloaf recipe I used (provided by K8, modified by me):

1 lb ground beef
1 lb ground veal
1/3 cup chopped onion
3 Tablespoons finely chopped celery
4 slices bread, cubed
1 cup warm milk
seasonings (see below)
2 eggs
red taco sauce

Mix meat together; add onion & celery. Stir in seasonings: 2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp sage (or poultry seasoning), 1/4 tsp dried mustard, 1/4 tsp black pepper, 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce. Soak bread cubes in milk; add lightly beaten eggs. Combine meat w/ remaining ingredients; mix well.

Form into loaf; spread 1/4 cup taco sauce over top, then sprinkle w/ 1/2 cup
crushed Fritos. Place in greased loaf pans & pour 1/2 cup water around loaf. Bake at 350 for 1 hr.

Oh I have had that happening too, the checked out thing. Not with ILL, but I looked up a reference and then was disappointed when it was checked out. Only to realize it was me who had checked it out. In those moments I am thinking - "God, I am getting old."

Hihi, at least you're not fined. I was arguing with Video Library because they sent me a fee notice for "alegedly" returning a tape a day late, and I actually did return late, save I didn't realize that. Oh, the 30s ... N.
