4 days in Chicago

06.06.2005

Chicago was great, since I mostly managed to avoid the heat. Seriously, I'm an old man out there. Sun blinds me, too much of it makes me sneeze uncontrollably, and I start to wilt.

I did enough work to not feel guilty. And enjoyed nice company, which included three cats (one, a male version of my Annie). K8 knew enough to let me sleep in, stay up late, feed me lots of ice cream, and let me watch TV reruns (she'd never seen Boy Meets World?!).

Also a trip to U of Chicago's Seminary Co-op Bookstore to pick up two titles: Occidentalism (a book on the history of anti-Western intellectualism) & Proclaiming Revolution (an edited volume on Bolivia's 1952 Revolution). The first looked interesting enough at the checkout lane to snatch; the latter was exactly what I went there looking for.

The only downside of the week? I think I ate too much meat. My own fault, of course, but I think my extra sluggishness was meat-induced. But big city restaurants are just too tempting. And, w/ that, my diet starts tomorrow.

The trip ended w/ a surprise meet-up w/ Nick & Bay, who drove me back to Kalamazoo after Israeli food on Devon Avenue — and a visit to a most adorable cookie lady.
