I ♥ London

07.07.2005

A series of terrorist attacks on London. 37 confirmed dead. Just people on subways & buses going about their daily lives.

You can read some local blogs from this directory of London bloggers, organized around the subway system. The first explosion was outside Liverpool Street.

I took this snapshot inside the station last December. The other picture's from the Victoria Monument, which seems just the right mix of strength & defiance & hope.

That's the kind of enemy we fight. While we agonize about whether to strike a radio tower because it might kill nearby civilians (and don't deny it, we agonize about these things just as reality dictates we often harm civilians), our enemy deliberately targets civilians, indiscriminately. Don't pretend to give them moral equivalency. So, yeah. Right now I'm angry at the terrorists, and the George Galloways of the world.

But this is London. The city that survived The Blitz w/ a remarkable courage & dignity. I know she'll be fine, eventually.

Because Tony Blair seems cut from the same cloth as another British prime minister, from another world war, who put it simply: "Wars are not won by evacuations."

I loved that post, Miguel. A tribute to the strength of character of as stated in that quote--- was it Winston Churchill? And sorry for my ignorance, but what does 'Here Here' mean?

Yes, that's a brief bit from Churchill's speech after Dunkirk.
