I ♥ Cairo

07.23.2005

Now it's Cairo, where al Qaeda (who claimed responsibility) attacks a country not even involved in Iraq. At least 88 dead, and rising. For a roundup of reactions, check the Egyptian blog ring.

Big Pharoah blogs about a brief radio news snippet he overheard while in a Cairo taxi. The British will no longer issue travel warnings, arguing "we cannot defeat terror by hiding but by confrontation".

Most have pointed out what should be obvious: The attacks focus on civilians, and on global tourism specifically. Why? Because tourism brings western pluralism & exposure to other cultures. We can't let them succeed.

In Singapore, the big churches are a target too. Creepy.

... attack on muslim country ... not party to war in Iraq ... not part of war on terror ... do not understand ... how can evil corporate bloodthirsty lying cabal be responsible for this ... does not compute ...

Wonder what Moataz thinks about this.
