Wedding Bells (or Another One Bites the Dust)

10.10.2005

A long, tiring, but enjoyable weekend. First, K8 came into town for our trip to Zionsville, Indiana. Friday night, we briefly took in the monthly Kalamazoo Art Hop along the downtown walking mall. Followed by dinner at Food Dance, one of the best eateries in town.

Saturday we spent about ten hours in Kermit, driving to/from Zionsville, Indiana. Where Micah got married. The ceremony was simple, charming, and sincere. The reception was a ridiculously-fun masquerade ball. I'd assumed only the "young people" would dress up. No. Not at all. There were cowboys, wizards, Phantoms-of-the-Opera, sultans, characters from Kill Bill, Ewoks, and more. K8 & I went as Mario Bros characters: Luigi & Princess Peach. We also ran into J. Edmund as Count Otto Von Doom.

Alas, we could only stay for a few hours, before we made the long drive back into Kzoo by 2am, ready to collapse from exhaustion.

Sunday was a relaxing day walking through downtown, w/ a visit to the Kalamazoo Art Institute (KIA) museum, where we saw the amazing Chihuly exhibit (up through 1 January). From there, wandered through the Kalamazoo Valley Museum, which is always a bit of fun. Then off to see Tim Burton's The Corpse Bride — good, but didn't reach the bar set by A Nightmare Before Christmas. Then dinner & much needed lounging around in front of the television.

Now it's Monday, and it's back to the grind, for both of us.

Thank you both so much for coming! It was a treat for me to have you two. I lament that I couldn't spend more time chatting, but everything was so crazy--so much nuttiness--that I feel like I only caught you in glimpses.

Thanks for dressing up!

Love,
Micah
