Countdown to Thanksgiving

11.18.2005

Last year was Sam's turn. This year, I'm stepping up to the plate. I'm cooking the Centellas family Thanksgiving dinner — at mom's house. So I'm starting to brush up on old recipes, and thinking about how to make the whole thing go smoothly. It's all about food, of course, but also about showing off.

So far the menu starts w/ a peanut soup. The main dish is a lamb w/ raspberry sauce, accompanied w/ a quinoa & potato casserole, Jerusalem salad, and corn-stuffed roasted tomatoes. Also, some cuscus, just for added grains. Mom's gonna help, and she's gonna make a pumpkin cheesecake.

Let's see see hot it all turns out. I'm excited.

Sounds great! and let's just forget about any extra dishes from me other than two desserts. okay? I can always fix a green bean casserole some other time :). Oh boy, someone else in my kitchen asking me where things are or why don't I have some certain ingredient. Glad Meijer is near by! I'm sure it will be an interesting type of Centellas fun. Everyone bring a game unless dominoes sequence is okay.

Que rico! Sopa de mani is one of my favorite Bolivian soups (along with quinoa soup), absolutely wonderful with a large spoonful of llajua (spelled right?). I'm curious what most Bolivian families living in the states eat for Thanksgiving (if they decide to celebrate it, I assume they would). My guess would have been lechon, but maybe that's be too much lechon at one time if it's also eaten at Christmas and/or New Years. Anyway, thanks for reminding me how much I miss my mother-in-law's cooking :)
