Holidays part 1

12.22.2005

So far, this has been a great holiday season. It's already halfway over, since Centellas Family Christmas came early (again) this year. My parents are flying (today, actually) back to Bolivia to spend the holidays w/ family back there. I hope them a safe flight back to Santa Cruz, a great holiday time w/o interruptions (i.e. social protests), and a hassle-free return.

But Centellas Family Christmas '05 was great. We were all of us together again, for the first time in a long time. Andy came in from Delaware. Sam & Novalí (my favorite niece) came in from Albion & Chicago. I came in from Kalamazoo. All of us at my parents' house in Saginaw. Perhaps for the last time (my parents plan to move back to Bolivia w/in a year). K8 also came w/ me; Heather came w/ Sam.

There were the requisite present exchanges, w/ 90% of gifts going to Novalí (4.5 years old) & Valerie (almost 2). I got some great things from everyone, but mostly just enjoyed watching my nieces play w/ their new toys.

There was also a trip out to nearby Frankenmuth (Michigan's "little Bavaria") to Bronners (the world's largest Christmas store). The store was overwhelming, filled w/ more Christmas kitsch than I remembered. We walked around the downtown, stopping at little artisan shops, the little historical museum, before ending at the Frankenmuth Brewery for lunch & pints.

But mostly, we just lounged around, eating sugar cookies & holiday leftovers. And watching Lost. K8 bought Season One on DVD, and we're now hooked. Line & sinker.

Now I'm in Chicago, starting K8's family Christmas.
