February blues

02.06.2006

The first weekend of February was wet, cold, and dreary. Except K8 was in town, which made things considerably better. There was some Battlestar Galactica watching on Friday, followed by Big Boy & bowling at Harpo's with friends on Saturday. We had to wait for free lanes (didn't count on league bowlers), but it was a great time.

Now it's back to the grind, trying to wrap up various work projects on a bleary February winter day. I miss the 50 degree weather we had just a week earlier. Spring can't get here quick enough. Then again, I've too much to get done by then.

You two always seem to have such a good timetogether. How come there was no picture of you bowling?

I thought last friday's episode was better than the week prior. The writers of the program do a great job of creating realistic characters with whom the audience can identify. Starbuck, for example, is young and maverick and a bit cliche, until we see her flaws in full bloom last friday, when she drinks herself practically blind out of grief and longing for the resistance fighter she left behind on Caprica who's likely dead.

As to Apollo, who two episodes ago nearly committed suicide by not responding to rescue calls after ejecting from his damaged Viper - but was coincidentally spotted and rescued - he's far closer to accepting his fate and tackling that which needs to be done to survive than is Starbuck. Apollo's still pining for the woman who wanted to marry him but was consequently killed in the Cylon invasion, but his escapade w/the hooker who finally stated flatly that she was not that other woman, then left him, has steered him towards the stark reality of life sans a planetary home, and the journey that still lies ahead.

Man, I love that show.
