Samaipata

Samaipata is famous for 2 main reasons aside from being a great weekend getaway for Crucenos.  For one it is one of the few places where Che Guevara had success in his revolution in Bolivia.  On Oct. 6th 1967 Che and his gorilla fighter captured Samaipata 3 months before his death in Vallegrande, Bolivia.  Second, Samaipata is 10km away from the Inca ruins “El Fuerte”

El Fuerte

1832 French naturalist Alcides d’Orbigny visited the site and realized its archaeology significance as center of religion for the Incas.  It was originally named “El Fuerte” by the Spanish who first visited and believed it to be some sort of military strong hold.
