Jaunes, en vivo!

Last night I had the chance to catch one of my favorite Latin American singers perform live. Jaunes, has been one of my favorite singers for the past 2 years, since the release of the Fijate Bien album. Last time I traveled in South America, I spent a many hours listening to his first CD. His electic guitar and rock style twisted with a touch of colombia cumbia and rythmic salsa, is unique. You can dance, jump, yell and sing to all his songs! To say the least, it rocked! I only have one huge, majOR REGRET!!! I didn't bring my camera! I could have gotten some really awesome pictures! So for now check these pictures out and pretend they are from the Philadelphia Theater of Arts last night.

Many thanks to the group, Karen, Dominique, Marc and Jose for going. I wans't sure anybody else would want to go, but we all rocked it out and screamed like 12yr old girls once Juanes came on stage. Now, I have to go to work. Hablamos! CIAO!

Learning to write

I must thank three people:

Miguel, for encouraging me to have a weblog
Amy Bueche: Buying me my first journal, which I am finally starting to use. It's a great thing to have
Mom: For reminding me that I need to work on my grammer..... ha ha ha... . Thank you for always helping me in my writing.

I've been doing a lot of writing and reading lately. It's a great way to relax and reflect. I just really wish my patio had furniture and more sunlight. I usually go to Borders to read and write, I like the hustle of people around me. Actually, I really like to go to Borders because one of the girls who works thier is cute and gives me smiles. Ya ya ya, would I ever make a move.... No, but they have good coffee 1.65 for a mug and a refill... not to shaby, also a limitless supply of fashion magizines. I am strategically planning how much more to plunge into debt by buying clothes.... RACK EM UP!! The only probelm I am having with reading is that I read to many books at once. There are to many good books out there and a lot more bad ones.... Miguel help!!! You always know what to read.

Picture above are from Friday night at Tania's house. We had some great homecooked Asian food. I made Kal Bee, it turned out pretty good this time. Marc and Michelle made Dumpling which were excellent. Michelle also prepared some great soups and side dishes, that I can't remember the names... sorry. I do remember driking red wine, a few beers and doing some Salsa dancing!!!

Para Nancy

Nancy, I told, after 3pm.

I have a new friend, helper ... companion. A cat. So maybe it's not the kind of cat you expected, but I don't care. It's black and white, has a red bow and the bell hanging from it's neck rocks!

This past weekend was not as relaxing as i thought. Although I did get some good reading in and that History channel special on Egyt was off the hook. I was going to just stay in, watch movies, and no spend money. .... so what did i end up doing, ... I went to the largest mall in the East Coast, and SHOPPED!!!! Oh well, I like my new clothes and since I need new clothes to fill the void in my life, it's good. Ok, gotta get back to work, but thanks again Michelle for the cat. By the way, I named it Yo Yo... there is a story behind that... CIAO!

Art? Who knows

Time to be Cliché? Not really, at least I hope not. I was just thinking and I thought, why not Blog it. What is the real beauty of an artists' work. Is it the way they captures images of real life? Painting a flower, stream, or a beautifully posed woman. Or is it the way they see and depict the image? The skill and workmanship to make art out of oils and canvas. I guess I'm just not a fan realism. Let's not make this into one of those; art is completely up to interpretation. I don't believe that is 100% true; artists need talent, not just an imagination.

Wow, the workday can really drag when you have to wait on people for information.

That was really random… oh well.

No Dance for Degas

Another weekend in Philadelphia, full of dancing, ... driving.. eating, and yes a little bit of drinking. Don't worry Parents, I only drink in moderation, especially when the restuarant has Presidente, my favorite Dominican beer. Let's recap the weekend:

Friday: Dinner at Mixto, a Colombian restuarnt in South side Philly. Food was excellent, great company, but bad bad service. Granted, we were a group of 10. Next, the group splits in two..... Marc has a head ache and wants to go home. Ha Ha ha... so what was that cure for the head ache again????? Do tell Marc. Ha ha ha. The troopers stayed on: Abe, Erin, Tony, Charlie and myself drove over to the Continental, a Martini Bar former 50's dinner. It has this really cool retro look that seems accidental for that part of town. We met up with Tony's boss and her cousin. After drinking a martini, we walked over to Cuba Libre for salsa dancing.

saturaday: The Philadelphia Muesem of Art, for the "Degas and Dance" exhibit. Something strange about a middle aged french man, sneaking into Ballet classrooms, drawing the curves and movements of young teen aged Ballerinas? Please, please, can we be serious for a bit. It's art! But honestly the Degas exhibit was breathaking. I especially like his later work and am looking to get a print for my apartment. Here's a picture of the group outside the museum. Oh ya, and if you don't remember.. this is the same spot Mr. Balboa ran in his training for the famous Rocky movies.

Ok, oppss. this post is getting to long... I gotta run....

Food, friends and Philadelphia

So I couldn't think of three F's, but Philadelphia has the same sound.

Food: Casa Blanca , A Moroccan restuarant in Philadelphia, that we went to on Saturday. Plush couches, eight course meal, Red Wine, music .... and of course, Belly dancers. Don't worry, don't worry, both sexes where represented. Male and Female dancers!

Friends: A group of DuPonters. We have been going out the last couple of months. Being so far away from family can be pretty tough. I miss being able to talk to my Mom and Dad in person and my brothers seem so far away. Internet and phones are good, but not that good. But since I have been hanging out with this group, I sometimes. ... dare I say it .... feel at home, IN DELAWARE. The gang, Karen, Tania, Dominique, Marc, Abe, Saskia, Michelle, Angelica, Vince, Tony, and myself are a group of DuPonters. Ranging from 21 to a wholesome young 38 years old! Marc, it's not that you are the oldest, you are the least young. LOL, lets just call you "El Capitan".

Philadelphia: Nighlife in Philadelphia can be wild and crazy. One thing, and this can be very important. YOU NEED TO know where you are going, ...... in advance. You can call the 411, but they might give you directions to a club that is closed.. oppss.. That was my fault. I heard of a club called "La Gran Manzana", a latin and Hip Hop club. I guessed they got closed down a few weeks ago.

We actually ended up at club Egypt. I liked it, dispite many disbeliefs. We danced to Techno, Hip Hop and even some disco. The disco room was cool, the waiters had roller skates and it wasn't as crowded as the other rooms. The only thing I wish was that they would have had a Latin room. I can't get enough of Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue or Bachata. it's not because I'm latin, it's because it's fun to dance to and everybody has respect. Not like in Hip Hop clubs where guys just want to grind and girls just want to dance a "Circular Barrier of Women", deflecting any intruder, rightfully so, since most guys..... . let's not get into it.

The whole weekend was great. Sunday topped it off. We all went to a park. Played soccer, read, laid out in the hot sun. I even got a tan. Well, I was red at first, but it's slowly changing into a nice tan that is O'natural. I really needed it. I am so pale.

So you think I'm a dork for wanting to get tan! So what, no matter what way you look at it, I'm still tan, and that's all that matters!
